For those of us suffering from mental illness, we don't just need hope that our pain will go away. We need hope that even if it lasts—God is still good. In writing this book, I want you to know first and foremost that you are not alone.
Also, I want you to know that you are not crazy. You may feel crazy at times—I certainly have. However, I want to initiate a conversation to normalize the relationship between faith and struggle. As a pastor, I too have struggled with anxiety and depression, and I’m compassionate and empathetic towards your experience.
And last, I want you to know that there’s a God who is with you. If you're like me, then you've likely heard otherwise. Perhaps you expect that God’s upset with you or disappointed in you. The truth is, there is a God who promises never to leave us, and he’s sovereign over every minute of our pain and difficulty. He sees, loves, and will sustain anyone in this battle.
This book is so necessary and needed in our world now, as the stigma with mental health continues. Aaron Hoover does an awesome job of sharing his struggle with depression and how he continues to work through it - using biblical principles and medical treatment. There were so many aha moments in this book packed with wisdom, but my favorite was, "Not making a decision about treatment is making a decision. You're deciding to continue living the way you currently are, which can be as bad, if not worse, than trying medicine and failing. Every medication has side effects, but nothing has worse side effects than doing nothing at all." (pg. 113) AMEN! If you or anyone you know struggles with a mental illness, this book is a must! Thank you, Aaron!

This book is an incredible resource for anyone dealing with anxiety/depression and for those who want to better understand mental illness. The author does such a great job of sharing his story while always pointing the reader back to Jesus and the hope he gives. As someone who is coming out of a season of severe anxiety, this book was so helpful in better understanding what I was going through and realizing I was not alone. I highly recommend this book and have personally already shared it with many others!

As a parent of a child who has suffered from anxiety and depression for the last six years, I bought this book to better understand her journey and the relationship between her faith and her suffering. Through his vulnerability and insights, Aaron has delivered on helping me find hope in what has been such a difficult journey for me and my daughter. I read this before I shared it with her because she's been through so much already with therapy, medication, self-help books, etc. I hoped this book would lovingly reassure her and put her focus on God as her comfort and strength in this struggle and it does. Thank you Aaron for sharing your story - God bless you.

Aaron Hoover’s well written book is full of vulnerability and balanced with a winsome tone that moves the mental illness conversation forward in the church and beyond. You will likely relate to what he shares or at the very least be better equipped to walk with those you love through this real and weighty battle. His thoughts are biblically founded and saturated with compassion. It’s a great resource to point others toward who deal with anxiety and depression. God has much to say about it and Aaron Hoover does a beautiful job representing it!

As someone who struggles on a daily basis with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc., I found this book to be extremely insightful and encouraging. I feel “seen” and freed from feeling like I am not doing enough, or that I can just faith away my anxiety. Really great book and couldn’t recommend it enough for people struggling with mental health issues or even for people who know someone who is struggling in those areas.

Aaron Hoovers ability to share his journey as a father, husband, pastor and friend navigating the trenches of mental illness within the context of faithfully following Jesus through it all gives us all hope.
Also, his witty humor sneaks in the pages and provides a bit a laughter among the tears that are sitting in my eyes because of the relatable truth spoken.
I think I’ve read or attempted to read every book out there on this topic…. And this my friends. This is the one to read.
